A Study on Glycoprotein of Gastric Juice and Mucosal Thickness in Rats

Abstract
|
|
|
The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of some drugs such as aspirin, ranitidine and pirenzepine on glycoprotein of gastric juice and mucosal thickness in rats. The results were as follows:
1) The volume of gastric juice was increased in pirenzepine group in comparison with the control group.
2) The total protein of gastric juice in aspirin, ranitidine and pirenzepine group was
higher than that of the control group. The glycoprotein of gastric juice was significantly lower in aspirin group but higher in ranitidine group than the control group.
3) Mucosal and epithelial mucus thickness were increased in ranitidine and pirenzepine group.
4) The positive correlation was observed between glycoprotein of gastric juice and mucosal thickness in control group.
5) The ratio of epithelial mucus thickness to mucosal thickness was increased in ranitidine and in pirenzepine group in comparison with the control group.
It was observed that ranitidine and pirenzepine increase mucosal thickness with increasing epithelial mucus thickness.
